At Kim’s K-9, we’ve built our daycare program very intentionally. It’s not a free-for-all, it’s structured, thoughtful, and designed to support your dog’s behavior, not work against it.
A Setup Designed With Dogs in Mind
One of the biggest ways we support dogs in daycare is through how we structure our space. Instead of one or two large, open rooms, we have four separate playrooms, each divided into two playgroups. This allows us to thoughtfully place dogs based on their size, play style, energy level, and personality.
That means your pup isn’t just grouped with whoever happens to be there that day, they’re placed where they actually fit. A tiny, sensitive dog won’t be overwhelmed by a large, high-energy group, and a playful, bouncy pup won’t be stuck in an environment that doesn’t match their energy.
Over time, this also allows us to build consistent groups where dogs can form familiar friendships, helping them feel more confident and relaxed each time they come in.

A Structured, Checked-In Environment
While your pup is here, they’re not just playing, they’re learning how to exist appropriately in a social environment. Our staff is actively present in the rooms, reinforcing everyday manners like “off”, “wait”, “come here”, “leave it” and more throughout the day. These aren’t formal training sessions, but real-life moments that help dogs practice making better choices. This creates a more connected, responsive group dynamic. Instead of dogs running on autopilot, we see pups that are more aware, more thoughtful, and better able to regulate themselves around others.
For dog parents, this means daycare is supporting the work you’re already putting in at home, not undoing it.
Why Rest Time Is Essential for Dogs
It’s easy to assume that the best daycare experience is one where dogs play nonstop from drop-off to pick-up. But in reality, that kind of environment can be overwhelming for many dogs.
Most adult dogs need around 12-14 hours of sleep per day, while puppies need up to 18-20 hours. Without opportunities to rest, dogs can become overtired... and overtired dogs are far more likely to become overstimulated, reactive, or irritable. This is often where tension between dogs begins, not because they don’t get along, but because they’re simply exhausted.
That’s why we intentionally build rest periods into the daycare day. These breaks give dogs the chance to decompress, reset, and return to the group in a better mental state. Because a tired dog isn’t always a calm dog. Sometimes, they’re just a cranky one.

This gives us the opportunity to get to know your pup as an individual. During their visit, they are temperament tested by our trainers and slowly introduced to other dogs in a controlled, thoughtful way. Rather than rushing the process, we take our time to make sure your dog feels comfortable and confident. From there, we’re able to place them into a playgroup that truly fits their needs. This step is a big part of what allows us to maintain safe, appropriate, and well-matched playgroups.
A Place for Every Pup
Not every dog thrives in a traditional group daycare setting, and that’s okay. Some pups are more social, while others prefer a quieter environment or more one-on-one interaction. That’s why, in addition to our structured playgroups, we also offer personalized enrichment-based daycare for dogs who would rather spend their time engaging with humans instead of other dogs.
Whether your pup is five pounds or over two hundred, a high-energy puppy or a slower-paced senior, our goal is to create an environment where they can feel successful.
