At Kim's K-9, we want you to take special note of the family atmosphere...yep! We are all related! Unlike many other places, this means you will NOT find a rapid staff turn-over. We know who your dog is. What he/she likes... what he/she doesn't. And they get to know us. Your dog can count on a high level of care by devoted adults. Same people. Same love. Every time.
Kim Steffes, owner and expert trainer
Kim owns Kim’s K-9 Training Center with her husband, Brian. Kim completed her Master Training Course in 1987 and has been actively training companion obedience in Grand Rapids, Michigan ever since. Kim specializes in opening the lines of communication between dogs and their owners with basic obedience training, which is necessary for the dog to live in harmony in the household. Kim and Brian have two dogs of their own, a beagle named Mindi and a cattle dog mix names Oliver.
Brian Steffes, owner and operations manager
Brian is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day business of Kim’s K-9. He enjoys spending time with the dogs each day, but especially prides himself on the many relationships made with clients and their pets throughout the years.
Laura G, pet care specialist/bather
Laura has over 3 years of experience and is the main pet care specialist at Kim’s K-9. She is responsible for the bathing and daily care of each dog. Safety and playtime are her specialties, whether it’s rumble-and-tumble with the big dogs, encouraging the shy dogs, or tug-and-play with the small dogs. The dogs are always after Laura’s attention. She makes sure they are having fun and playing safe. Laura recently adopted Charlie, a lhasa in need of a home.
Sue S. pet care specialist
Sue is an animal lover extraordinaire. If it has fur and four feet, it is her favorite! Sue steps in whenever the staff has to travel for business or family trips. When you first meet Sue, don't be surprised if she looks right past you and only has eyes for your pooch! It is a dog lover’s glich we all share. Sue has an elderly golden retriever named Bumpus and a cattle dog named Diego. Besides her family and her church, Sue spends time at her favorite animal non-profit; H.U.G.s ranch, where people in need can go and benefit from the love animals pour out on us.
Jennifer Steffes, pet care assistant
Jen has been working at Kim’s K-9 since it opened 16 years ago. After graduating high school, she spent 6 months on mission work, training in the state of Wyoming and then traveling to Costa Rica for 2 months! While gone, she said she even missed scooping. Now THAT'S a devoted dog person! She helps with all aspects of the business, but particularly enjoys playing with the small dogs and puppies. She is often found cuddling and playing with the pups whenever she has an extra moment.
Philip Steffes, pet care assistant
Phillip quickly becomes a favorite of all the dogs because he is a playtime-pro. He loves interacting with the dogs and throwing their tennis balls. His high energy and enthusiasm are always a delight. Philip also assists Kim with training by posing as the “distraction” to test a dog’s focus, and does the tons of little jobs that always crop up here at the Center.
